AGF TECHNOLOGY
OPERATION
The AGF filter vessel has two large access ports, one at the top of the tank
for inspection and gravel loading, the other at the bottom of the tank for
unloading and maintenance. The sealing system incorporates leak-free ports
sealed with submarine-type oval cover secured by water pressure.

Filtration Process
Unfiltered water enters AGF filters through a three-stage distributor plate
and reaches the media bed with minimal turbulence. Contaminants are trapped
as the water flows through the media bed. 54 mushrooms in the underdrain
create uniform collection of the filtered water.
During filtration, head loss across the filter media will increase due to
the accumulation of solids within the media. When it reaches the
differential pressure limit, the media will be backflushed to remove the
accumulated solids.
|
Backflushing Process
During the backflush, the flow of clean, filtered water from one or more
tanks in the battery is reversed through one filter via a three-way valve.
As the flow is reversed, the media bed is lifted and expanded, and
contaminants are flushed out through the backflush manifold.
The unique design of the underdrain system is critical to ensure uniform
lifting of the media bed during the backflush process and for minimizing the
amount of backflush water required.
Once the backflush is completed and all solids and contaminants are removed,
the valves return the flow of water to the normal filtration process.

Zeolite Filtration Media - A Superior Replacement for Sand Filtration
A2 offers proprietary A2Z Natural Zeolite Filter Media for replacement of
existing sand media applications. A2Z Zeolitešs porous structure allows
increased flow rates, improved filtration, and reduced backwash volume. A2Z
Zeolite can be used for physical filtration, ion exchange filtration and
treatment, or as agglomerating agents for FLOC development.
Natural zeolite, a clinoptilolite, is formed from volcanic ash as it is
mineralized by alkaline water passing through it over millions of years. The
resulting Zeolite minerals are a framework of aluminosilicates with an
extending three-dimensional network of AIO4 and SiO4 tetrahedra linked to
each other by sharing of the oxygens. This linked network forms a very
porous molecular structure, thereby increasing the effective filtration
surface area and capacity.

Replace Sand Media with A2Z Zeolite to Increase Flow Rates and Filtration
Efficiency, and Reduce Unwanted Nitrogen Compounds
Superior Porosity
Zeolite is very porous - one gam of zeolite has 30-60 m2 surface area! This
high porosity means that zeolite filtration occurs between zeolite grains
and within zeolite grains; sand filtration occurs only between sand grains.
With increased porosity comes more efficient filtration.
Reduce Backwash Volume
Zeolite is roughly half the density of sand filtration media, so while the
volume of media is the same, the weight is half that of sand. Due to the
desntiy difference, only half of the back wash flow is required to
effectively lift and backwash the zeolite media bed.
Increase Flow Rates by 20-30% Without Modifications
Due to the increased porosity, natural zeolite typically increases flow
rates by 20-30% as compared to sand.
5 Micron Rating
Typical filtration gradient for zeolite allows for particulate removal down
to less than 5 microns.
Reduce Unwanted Nitrogen compounds
Zeolites have an affinity for ammonia and chloramine compounds, naturally
reducing any unwanted nitrogen compounds.
Ion Exchange Capability
A2Z natural zeolite granules are high-surface area, alumino-silicate
minerals with a cation exchange capacity in excess of 100 meg./100 grams.
Costs, Shipping and Efficiency
On a unit volume basis, the cost of zeolite for physical filtration is
approximately the same as high quality sand. The benefits for using zeolite
- better filtration and lower backwash volumes - make any cost difference
insignificant.
Shipping options are palletized 50 pound sacks, super sacks, or train
carloads. We have flexibility to ship any amount and can help you find the
most suitable container for your shipping and installation needs.
